Formal advice from Punkin Butt product developer as supplied to the Nappy Bucket
What if my baby swallows a whole bottle of Punkin Butt Teething Oil?
Your baby will be fine. The natural teething oil is formulated to be safe even if a baby drinks the entire bottle. Even though it is meant to be used topically, no harm will occur should an accident happen.
What if my baby gets Punkin Butt Teething Oil in their eyes?
Take a cup of water and pour over the eye a few times. Punkin Butts mild formula will not cause eye damage, but may cause slight irritation or a burning sensation if it gets in the eyes. A few rinses should remedy it right away.
I’ve heard clove oil/peppermint oil should not be used on babies, is this safe?
The main concern with these oils is Eugenol. Eugenol comes from clove oil. Dentists use it as a numbing and anti-inflammatory agent. When applied to the gums, it can kill bacteria and ease tooth pain after dental procedures. You can also find clove oil in toothpastes, mouthwashes, soaps, foods, and even in veterinary medications! Clove/Eugenol is finding its way into more important health applications such as combating yeast and fungal infections.
What about the risks?
In children, doses of Eugenol between 5 ml and 10ml have been found to cause liver damage, acute sickness and death. Eugenol is rapidly metabolized by the liver when ingested and 95% of the doese is excreted within 24 hours.
So what about the clove oil in Punkin Butt Teething Oil?
We’ve formulated Punkin Butt Teething Oil to never contain more than 0.0017 mL per 2 oz bottle. So if a baby or toddler should take a bottle and consume it, they would never consume enough Eugenol to become sick in any way or suffer from any damage in the short term or long term. Child safety is our number one concern and we know kids can get into most anything! The best way to make sure they don’t poison themselves is to ensure an extreme case would never result in a poisoning. With toddlers especially, “if it can happen it will.” Nearly 10 years and not one baby has ever been harmed by Punkin Butt Teething Oil! That’s safety you can count on.
